Reflection 2

Final reflection

Writing about the two projects that have been completed was not a hard task to do, however some difficulties has been faced. Finding the sources was easy with the aid of our teacher for she gave us the kick to start each project. Moreover we had to look up the information on the internet which was not that hard to do. Some of the searches gave us a hard time to understand the contents of the project, but we covered that with working together. We had more than enough time to complete the projects, but what delayed it was our laziness. The referencing part was about the easiest task to be completed, for we did practice a lot to extract the reference using the web site given by our teacher “ www.bibme.org “. The course LSC taught us many things, for instance, writing essays and summaries in an effective way. In the beginning of the course, we faced difficulties; however we passed these difficulties after a lot of practice which made us somehow at an expert level of writing. From my point of view, this is just the first step of learning LSC and there is a lot to learn in the coming days.

Essay 2

(Saeed Salem Al Kalbani-CGD-H00205402)

Environment

The issues of global warming become more important nowadays. With the increasing number of factories and house hold consumption. Factories are important to manufacture our daily life products but if humans have a deep look on what factories provide us with or provide the environment.  People always wonder why factories were built far from where people live?  Why some countries prefer to transfer their factories and build it in developing countries such as China and India? Why do people throw the old IPHONE and go to buy the newest one? The story of stuff video (2007) answered these questions. This paper will discuss the reasons that relate factories and house consumption to issues such as global warming destroy species and how there keeps people in poverty.

The problems that are related to consumerism are divided to five parts which are:

Extraction

Trashing and slating the natural forest to get the raw marital that are needed for production and to make the products that we use. What does it mean? It means that human are using the natural resources of the earth. According to the Story of Stuff we need three to five plants to satisfy our need of products.

Production

In this stage we use energy to mix toxic chemical to make our products. This means many products contain mixed toxins. Toxins are bad for health. This stage creates many serious problems such as pollution. This would answer the question, why most factories were built far from where people and citizens live. And have serious impacts on human health.

Distribution

This stage is important because it sells all toxic and products to people. Offer people with low cost products and attracts them with low price products.

Consumption

The heart of the consumption is house hold where people use the product and keep buying stuff. Consumers are important for factories and stores. This means there is always a plan to keep this heart beating. Always people change their products although sometimes they don’t need to. They might change the look (Fashion). For example who uses old mobile phone would be consider are old people who don’t like new products. Advertisement and media helps changing the people mind about products. There are many tricks to motivate people to buy and buy more.

Disposal

Where do old products go? As trash; burned as garbage or dumped in land. Burning the garbage make it, new and more dangerous toxin. Or some countries transfer their garbage to other countries.

According to Gulf news “UAE has the highest carbon foot print among the countries in the world” (Landais. E. 2008). This means that UAE introduce high levels of Carbon Toxic to the environment. Household, factories and business industries increased in the country which causes this problem. UAE has done several things to solve this issue. First of all, introduce global awareness topics to UAE citizens. Secondly establish “Masdar” which it aims is to solve issues related to global warming. According to Masdar their aim is to 0 Carbon productions. In addition to that Dubai government tries to encourage people to go and use Dubai Metro because it reduces the pollution of transportation. Many reasons inspire and motivate UAE government to take the steps into green energy and renewable sources. The purpose of sustainability is to save the natural resources of the earth for the generation that will live in this area in future.

Overall, Consumption is serious problem which creates a serious of problem along with. All stages of consumption are dangerous in all it levels. People nowadays are more aware of this problem. However, modifying the problem and it causes will help us to find the best solutions. The earth is changing and we need to change our way of living and thinking. To save our planet we need to change our way of looking at our lives. We need to change our lives style by reducing the amount of our consumption and use the green energy in production. This issue will be discussed in future and also generation after. People of nowadays need to think of better world that their children can live on. Or we would serve them a world with serious problems. Live green, help the environment and save plant is the goal of upcoming topics that is need more actions than discussing.

Essay 1

Using internet in education

The internet is very important for education. Many teachers use the internet to explain the lesson. Also students use internet for helping them with their projects and their course work. One of these webs is web 2.0 .This web is useful for students and teacher. In this essay I will write about how the education developed through the internet and how it can be used.

First of all, I will start in what the students see or by vision of k 12 students today. They see they want to share information with each other. The second point is that the students want to use their emails to receive the tasks from their teachers, also as the students see in vision of k 12 they see learn by doing. It means, they want to work by and to know or to explain the idea. The vision of k12 students today is use technology in education.

Web 2.0 is one of the good webs to see technology in teaching. Web 2.0 uses the new technology in the new teaching methods. It has many benefits. One of these benefits is making the students life easier, because this web is easy to use and very clear. Moreover, this web has good software that helps the students to get their information faster.

It possible to compare between web 1.0 and web 2.0. Web 1.0 used for news. For example BBC and html. On the other hand we have web 2.0, this web is more dynamic than web 1.0, because web 2.0 easier than web 1.0. The other thing that could compare between them is when can we use the information. Web 1.0 like what I said at the beginning of this paragraph using for news, but Web 2.0 is different than web 1.0. Web 2.0 used for companies. Web 2.0 features holograms better then Web 1.0. This feature is free web based apps.

Web 2.0 has many benefits, like mentioned previously; we can learn new language by blog, wikis, podcasts and videos. I will explain each one separately. I will start a blogger in the beginning. A blog is important to students and for teachers for sure, because in the blog you can post homework’s required by the teacher in the class and you can communicate directly to the teacher. The second thing is wikis. In this you can do your project to can do some researches on it to find required information. Podcasts are the third thing I will explain. Podcasts using also to contact with other people from other countries by voice. Podcasts is one of many ways to learn a new language.

I believe that the development of internet was one of the greatest developments that effected many things other than education. It mostly influenced education because it made both the lives of students and teachers very easy. Although books must not be forgotten as well for all this started by the studying through books.

Reflection 1

Reflection 1

Writing an academic summary starts by examining the main things of the passage you have been given. You should skim and scan through the passage, and noting down what you think is relevant and important. After you mark down the main points go through them trying to understand what they mean. Main points and key supporting details should be expressed. What is meant by the main idea? It is the subject of the paragraph and which is the most important part of it.
Student should be able to summarize effectively to give an idea in a lower quantity with the best quality.
Students are basically expected to summarize articles, to avoid the plagiarism students should not copy the ideas of the passage given, instead, the ideas should be paraphrased ,as in using the same ideas with your own words. References should be written to show the reader where did you summarize the passage you have written from.
We can use sites like http:/www.bibme.com  to find the reference of the passage you are summarizing  and we can always go back to our teachers online blog and extract information that could be helpful, using APA format should be used because it is way different then other formats, and it is recognized in HCT. From my point of view, the greatest challenge that I have faced is understanding the main points of the passage. To improve my academic writing, I should write more often and practice using the instructions we have been given.

Solar energy to form electricity

In the year of 2011 began the plan of forming electricity in Abu Dhabi, Solar plant is basically supposed to produce electricity throughout the sun heat which is called Gemasolar, each year it produces enough electricity to power up more than 25000 homes. Designing the plant took 3 years, here in Abu Dhabi they use molten salt tanks to store electricity, while other plants don’t, some of them use oil to transfer heat to molten salt ,which is called transfer fluid. Molten salt can hold more heat than oil since oil is organic and salt is not. The size of each reflector is approximately equal to a two-bedroom apartment, they also use magnifying glass to absorb more heat, and since they had 2650 reflectors it needed to be managed carefully.
